Capricorn is identified as the satyr Pan, the god with a goat’s horns and legs, who saved himself from the monster, Typhon, by giving himself a fish’s tail, becoming a sea – goat and diving into a river.
Although they can appear boring and unfeeling: its not true! While Capricorn’s top half, the Goat, can navigate rough mountain terrain, the bottom half, the fish tail, is comfortable in the mysterious, deep ocean. This combination of Earth and Water suggests to us that Caps are both grounded and practical as well as sensitive and creative. They’re just savvy and street smart enough not to let you in on their soft side.
Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, and, just like their planetary ruler, Capricorns are disciplined. Saturn is the lord of time, which is a theme strongly tied to this sign. Fittingly, New Year’s Eve occurs during its season.
A Cardinal sign (meaning they are the first sign of the season, in this case winter), Capricorns are industrious and good leaders. The last Earth sign, Capricorn represents worldly success. Career and success are super important to Capricorn; through these successes, they usually have plenty of money.
The Capricorn season from winter solstice to the end of January the time of darkness with the lag of winters cold leaving us suspended and yet to feel the return of the light, sees the seeds buried deep within the earth and the hard shell being broken down by the work of water, ice & snow in order for the tap root starts to work itself out in Aquarius February as the rise of the light starts to make itself felt and then on into March when the temperature starts to follow suit and the roots start to spread and take in enough for the first shoots to start their way up.
